5 Reasons to Get Professional Advice on Beauty Products
5 Reasons To Get Professional Advice On Beauty Products
1. The influencer trap
There is a lot going on in the beauty industry right now, and it seems that almost every single celebrity and influencer has their own makeup or skincare line. We want to mention this point first because we want you to be careful when falling into the influencer trap. Launching a product in 2019 is not as difficult as it used to be, especially when you have the marketing set in place and the audience wrapped around your finger.
We want to encourage you to do your research before you invest in a product that has been launched by an influencer. This is not to say that some celebrities and influencers are not educators first. I like to determine to whether a product is worth investing in based on if I was receiving consistent education before the launch, or if the launch seems like it came out of nowhere because they have the numbers and audience to sell their product to.
To trust the influencer or celebrity you must believe that they are a professional in their field and that their product is truly a product of their knowledge and experience in their industry.
2. We eat, breath, sleep this stuff
Seriously, we do. Being a beauty professional, we basically bathe in information, trends, products, ingredients, our Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter feeds are stacked with beauty information and inspiration. Working with a professional and receiving advice from someone who dedicates 40+ hours a week of their life to this subject is always more beneficial, time-saving and worth an investment (if there is one).
That is not to say you shouldn't be doing your own research, we highly recommend that, however, when you are hiring an industry professional you must consider all the years of experience they have with clients, all of the years of research and education that has gone into their work.
3. The packaging isn't everything...
This is a simple and maybe obvious point, but you would be surprised how many of us get wrapped up in packaging and branding. A beautifully packaged product does not perform better than a poorly packaged product. To be honest, there are many products that we love that simply don't look awesome.
Imagine yourself popping into the skincare section of your favorite beauty store. Where do your eyes automatically go? To the beautiful boxes, I'm sure. It can be difficult to navigate through what you actually need when you are so caught up in "what does my bathroom need, aesthetically". This is why it is important to have a consultation with a professional first so you can get real advice on what you truly do need before setting up any expectations of what you want based on aesthetic.
4. Everyone is different
That's right, every single one of us is different and unique, from our personalities to our skin and needs. Remember that conversation you had with your best friend last week when she told you about her favorite new retinol serum. The one you "HAVE TO GET". She may be your best friend, but that does not mean you should take her skincare advice. Your best friend has been struggling with acne for years and has finally discovered a product that is improving her skin. You, on the other hand, are dehydrated and have patches of eczema on your cheeks and forehead. That retinol serum is not going to make your skin improve the way it has made hers.
As humans, we absolutely love to share what has worked for us and improved our lives but we must remember, everyone is different. By seeking out a beauty professional you can get straight to the point, rather than fishing through your friend's recommendations, wasting a bunch of money and most likely not experiencing many positive results.
5. It's easy to get sucked into trends & launches
It happens all the time. A new brand, a new product...at The Green Beauty Collective we launch products all the time! This does not mean YOU need the new product, or that the new launch is right for you. Think back to our last point about everyone being different. It is important for brands to launch new and different products to create diversity within their brand, but this does not mean you have to jump on the new launch just because there has been a lot of hype around it.
If you have had a 1 on 1 consultation for your skin in the past, refer to your notes and decide for yourself if the new launch is something that would benefit your skin. It may just be the perfect product, but it may also be exactly what your skin doesn't need. If you have questions about a new launch, you can always receive advice from a beauty professional to find out if it is right for you instead of just cashing in because it is exciting.
